This is a letter of protest and urgent request written by the Senegalese and Gambian residents of the Lesvos CCAC, demanding urgent action to improve their situation on Lesvos.

Εδώ και πολλούς μήνες, πολλοί υπήκοοι της Σενεγάλης και της Γκάμπιας παραμένουν στο κέντρο χωρίς να έχουν επωφεληθεί από μεταφορά, ενώ ορισμένοι διαμένουν εκεί για περισσότερους από έντεκα μήνες, εννέα μήνες, επτά μήνες ή πέντε μήνες. Η κατάσταση αυτή δημιουργεί έντονο αίσθημα αδικίας και αβεβαιότητας. Έχουμε απευθυνθεί επανειλημμένα στις αρμόδιες αρχές για να εκφράσουμε τις ανησυχίες μας και να ζητήσουμε πληροφορίες σχετικά με την κατάστασή μας. Η τελευταία επίσημη συνάντησή μας πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 21 Ιουλίου 2026. Στις 22 Ιουλίου 2026, επισκεφθήκαμε ξανά τις αρμόδιες αρχές για να τις ενημερώσουμε σχετικά με την πρόθεσή μας να οργανώσουμε μια ειρηνική πορεία, ώστε να εκφράσουμε τις ανησυχίες μας με ήρεμο και σεβαστό τρόπο. Μας απάντησαν ότι η πορεία αυτή απαγορεύεται και ότι, εάν την πραγματοποιήσουμε, κινδυνεύουμε να συλληφθούμε και να φυλακιστούμε. Τα γεγονότα αυτά μας έχουν οδηγήσει σε κατάσταση έντονης ψυχολογικής πίεσης. Η παρατεταμένη αβεβαιότητα, η έλλειψη προοπτικών και το αίσθημα ότι δεν εισακουγόμαστε προκαλούν σοβαρό άγχος στα μέλη της κοινότητάς μας. Ανησυχούμε ιδιαίτερα για τις επιπτώσεις αυτής της κατάστασης στην ψυχική υγεία πολλών ανθρώπων. Θα θέλαμε επίσης να σας ενημερώσουμε ότι ένας συμπατριώτης μας από τη Σενεγάλη επιχείρησε πρόσφατα να θέσει τέλος στη ζωή του. Χάρη στην επαγρύπνηση και την άμεση επέμβαση των γειτόνων του, αποφεύχθηκε μια τραγωδία. Το περιστατικό αυτό αποδεικνύει τη σοβαρότητα της ψυχολογικής οδύνης που βιώνουν ορισμένοι άνθρωποι μέσα στο κέντρο. Ζητούμε με σεβασμό από τις αρμόδιες αρχές να λάβουν σοβαρά υπόψη την κατάστασή μας, να ξεκινήσουν διάλογο με τους εκπροσώπους της κοινότητάς μας και να εξετάσουν τα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζουμε, ώστε να αναζητηθούν λύσεις με σεβασμό στα δικαιώματα και την αξιοπρέπεια όλων. Subject: Letter of protest and urgent request for the improvement of the situation of Senegalese and Gambian nationals at the Lesvos Reception Center
To the Management of the Lesvos Center and the competent authorities,
Distinguished Ladies, Distinguished Gentlemen,
With this letter, we, the nationals of Senegal and Gambia residing in the Center of Lesvos, wish to express our deep dissatisfaction and great concern about our current situation.
For many months, many Senegalese and Gambian nationals have remained in the centre without benefiting from transport, with some staying there for more than eleven months, nine months, seven months or five months. This situation creates a strong sense of injustice and uncertainty.
We have repeatedly approached the relevant authorities to express our concerns and request information regarding our situation. Our last official meeting was held on July 21, 2026.
On July 22, 2026, we visited the relevant authorities again to inform them of our intention to organize a peaceful march to express our concerns in a calm and respectful manner. They replied that this march was prohibited and that if we carried it out, we risked arrest and imprisonment.
These events have led us to a state of intense psychological stress. The prolonged uncertainty, lack of prospects and the feeling of not being heard are causing serious stress among members of our community. We are particularly concerned about the impact of this situation on the mental health of many people.
We would also like to inform you that a fellow Senegalese recently attempted to end his life. Thanks to the vigilance and immediate intervention of his neighbors, a tragedy was averted. This incident demonstrates the severity of the psychological suffering experienced by some people within the center.
We respectfully ask the competent authorities to take our situation seriously, to initiate a dialogue with the representatives of our community and to examine the problems we face, so that solutions can be sought with respect for the rights and dignity of all.
Our approach is completely peaceful. We wish to be heard and treated with respect, in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation.

À la direction du Centre de Lesbos et aux autorités compétentes,
Mesdames et Messieurs distingués,
Par la présente, nous, ressortissants du Sénégal et de la Gambie résidant au centre de Lesbos, souhaitons exprimer notre profond mécontentement et notre grande inquiétude quant à notre situation actuelle.
Depuis de nombreux mois, de nombreux ressortissants sénégalais et gambiens sont bloqués dans le centre sans bénéficier de transports, certains y restant plus de onze mois, neuf mois, sept mois ou même cinq mois. Cette situation engendre un profond sentiment d’injustice et d’incertitude.
Nous avons sollicité à plusieurs reprises les autorités compétentes pour leur faire part de nos préoccupations et obtenir des informations sur notre situation. Notre dernière réunion officielle a eu lieu le 21 juillet 2026.
Le 22 juillet 2026, nous nous sommes de nouveau rendus auprès des autorités compétentes pour les informer de notre intention d’organiser une marche pacifique afin d’exprimer nos préoccupations de manière calme et respectueuse. Elles nous ont répondu que cette marche était interdite et que, si nous la menions, nous risquions l’arrestation et l’emprisonnement.
Ces événements nous ont plongés dans un état de stress psychologique intense. L’incertitude prolongée, le manque de perspectives et le sentiment de ne pas être entendus engendrent un stress important au sein de notre communauté. Nous sommes particulièrement préoccupés par l’impact de cette situation sur la santé mentale de nombreuses personnes.
Nous tenons également à vous informer qu’un de nos compatriotes sénégalais a récemment tenté de mettre fin à ses jours. Grâce à la vigilance et à l’intervention immédiate de ses voisins, une tragédie a été évitée. Cet incident témoigne de la gravité des souffrances psychologiques vécues par certaines personnes au sein du centre.
Nous demandons respectueusement aux autorités compétentes de prendre notre situation au sérieux, d’engager un dialogue avec les représentants de notre communauté et d’examiner les problèmes auxquels nous sommes confrontés, afin que des solutions puissent être recherchées dans le respect des droits et de la dignité de tous.
Notre démarche est entièrement pacifique. Nous souhaitons être entendus et traités avec respect, dans un esprit de dialogue et de coopération.
